Maintenance Guide for Magic Film & Magic Glass

How do you clean the switchable film/switchable glass?

  • Turn off the power when cleaning the smart film/smart glass.
  • Dust off with a dry soft microfiber cloth OR a simple solution of water and a small amount of streak-free detergent soap may be used then wipe dry gently with a soft microfiber cloth.
  • Power on when the film is 100% dry.

What not to do

  • Do not use any chemicals on the smart film, it will cause a chemical reaction damaging the product.
  • Do not clean the smart film or smart glass when it is hot or in direct sunlight.
  • Be sure that the edges do not accumulate any liquid residue after you’re done wiping them.
  • Do not use cleaners which contain Hydrofluoric or Phosphoric acid as they are corrosive to the film surface.
  • Avoid using abrasive cleaners, powder-based cleaners, scouring pads or any other harsh materials to clean smart film or smart glass.
  • Do not store or place other materials up against the film or glass, because it might damage the material or create a heat trap causing thermal breakage.
  • Avoid using tapes or adhesives that can stain or damage film or glass surfaces.

Hazy/Milky

  • All smart film/smart glass is not optically as clear as a normal glass panel, and it is not avoidable because of PDLC layer, this layer consists of micron-sized liquid crystal molecules that can change the glass into transparent when the power is on and opaque when power is off. When the power is on, these molecules will reflect light and cause slight hazy/milky.
  • Lighting conditions will affect the haze levels hence avoid direct lighting onto smart film/smart glass.
  • LOW IRON glass is recommended for all applications to ensure maximum clarity.
